Description

I think there's too much black and I tried to distinguish the witches black robes from the black background but I don't think it worked out.

I love the use of perspective here.
It really evokes that feeling of being trapped and helpless.

I can't really comment on the content as I never had a chance to get to know the character :(  But it's definitely creepy and you can see the witch (rhymes with bi*** :P) is enjoying taunting the character.

I really love the moon on the water effect viewed between the sides of the valley.  That is just wonderful :)  The moonlit highlights on the mountain sides are just perfect too.
Have you tried colouring in very small circles with felt-tips/markers.  It takes a lot of patience and you hand aches like hell when doing large areas :P but it does help avoid streaks.

I know how you feel about trying to shade/add values with black.  I've used coloured pencils in the past and copics now.  It's something I really struggle with too.  Especially on black hair.  One trick is to start with a mid to dark grey or a midnight blue for the base colour then add true black for shade and a lighter shade for the highlights.  But this doesn't always give the effect you want :(
Another one I sometimes use is to outline the diferent areas (in this case the witch) in white.  Just to pick them out from the background.  This doesn't always work either but they are the best work-arounds I've found for the moment.  Let me know if you find a better technique.  I use a white gel ink pen for this purpose (they only cost a couple of quid).
